Inter’s defenders turned into a bunch of sharpshooters as the usual attacking suspects failed. Sneijder being particularly egregious finessing a ball to death with Fernando Muslera, the Lazio goalie at his mercy as Motta looked on in bemusement.
After impressing the world with their defensive prowess against Barca, the Inter defenders decided to take matters into their own hands or in this case, their heads.
Walter Samuel galloped centerforward style to receive Wesley Sneijder’s floated cross and nod the ball into goal. In the second half Thiago Motta stuck the ball into the net from a corner.
More damage could have been done but Muslera kept the Nerazzurri out with an impressive set of saves. There were highlights of the slippery Mauro Zarate doing his customary dance around the Inter defenders. Huge talent that lad.
The Lazio fans celebrated every goal as it meant the Scudetto slipping away from the grasp of their crosstown rivals Roma. A banner proclaimed in bold: Oh Nooo. Another said Mourinho a real man in bogus football.
Overall, it was a subdued Mourinho who looked like he had to come down to earth after the giddy celebrations seen at the Camp Nou a few evenings before.
