Nigeria’s Bayelsa United lost their 24 year old captain Abiel Tabor just hours after they had won the Globacom Premier League title for the first time ever. The player was shot dead by suspected armed robbers on the Warri- Sapele road. The report reads…
‘Football reporter Norbert Okolie, who followed Bayelsa’s victory parade, disclosed that after Tador, a defensive midfielder, had lifted high the league trophy, he travelled with the victorious team to Oghara.
He then left the team in his car for Warri, where his family lives. It was on his way there that he ran into an ambush set by armed robbers. The robbers shot him in the head, causing his car to somersault. The two other persons in the car, the player’s younger brother and a friend, came out of the wreckage unhurt only to be accosted by the robbers while Tador was left to bleed to his death.‘
Nigeria has become an unholy mess of oil and blood.
Violent crime has surged in the Niger Delta since militants, who say they are fighting for a fairer share of the region’s natural resources, launched a campaign of sabotage against the oil industry three years ago.
