The euphoria of being the first team to beat Manchester City in a long time is now dead and buried.Liverpool chalked up their third elimination from the FA Cup in the three seasons that Klopp has been at the helm.
Klopp blamed his bloody awful defence for yet another defensive debacle.
The faithful at Anfield and the West Brom faithful were witness to three VAR decisions made by the referee.
1. After Craig Dawson beat Roberto Firmino to the ball and headed home from a corner, referee Craig Pawson went to VAR and correctly found that Gareth Barry was in an offside position.
2. Grzegorz Krychowiak tugged Mo Salah’s shirt in the penalty area just moments later and Pawson initially waved play on.However VAR revealed that he had been fouled and a VAR assisted penalty was awarded for the first time in English football history.
Firmino made some more history by missing the penalty.
3. West Brom’s third goal was also referred and VAR said it was okay.
The faithful were largely baffled during the time VAR spent pondering these calls because there is no big screen at Anfield and so the only way they could know what was going on was if they had had the foresight to bring a portable TV set along.
