Spurs and Gunners will be following the U20 finals closely. Czech Republic’s Tomas Pekhart, the highly rated Slavia Prague transfer and a Spurs reserve team player meets Argentina’s Angel Di Maria, the high flying striker out of Rosario Central on his way to Salamanca, linked to Arsenal in a loan transfer deal that brings him to the Emirates next year, after completing EU residency requirements. This is a similar sort of arrangement which will bring Carlos Vela, another U20 standout to Arsenal from Salamanca.
Di Maria is highly regarded in the Argentinian league and scouting reports by Giles Grimandi have been very favourable. He has already justified his selection in the Argentine U20 squad by scoring 3 goals and is one of the tournament stars.
Tomas Pekhart, a 2006 transfer from Slavia Prague scored 19 goals in 20 appearances for the Spurs academy and made 12 appearances for the reserve squad before being injured. Martin Jol sees a bright future for this lad whose breakthrough to the first squad might be a bit iffy given the striker depth the Spurs have at the moment. Pekhart has been mostly used as a substitute by coach Miroslav Soukup in the Czech squad in the U20 matches.
