Blatter’s brave and bold dream that World Cup 2022 would be held in Qatar is now in even greater peril.
“Just think together of what we can achieve together,” Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, the wife of the Qatar’s then-ruler, told FIFA voters in 2010. She ambitiously forecast a “culture of peace across our region through football.”
With five years until kickoff that hope for a culture of peace was already seriously dented by reports that migrant labourers working on the 9 building sites were suffering serious human rights violations.
And now with Qatar being under seige from a big chunk of the rest of the Arab world for a whole bunch of not so savoury reasons – FIFA might have to seriously have to start thinking of plan B.
I hope plan B is to host WORLD CUP 2022 in America, Preferably Jacksonville being one of the cities they play in, so that I may attend 🙂
