Liverpool wins! They are through to the CL final over Chelsea. The match came down to PKs and Liverpool prevailed. All the Liverpool players successfully converted their penalties with only Lampard managing to do so for Chelsea.
Quick notes: Alonso, Agger, and Kuyt stepped it up big time. Drogba was kept under a relatively tight leash with Agger and Carragher doing an outstanding job marking him. Pennant was a thorn in the Chelsea side right till his substitution. I though Kuyt was distinctly unlucky with his goal disallowed by a questionable off side call.
Did someone say Jose Mourinho’s days are numbered? This was the big one and he missed out on it again. With his well documented tensions between Andriy Shevchenko, who never fit his role of withdrawn striker and now trouble brewing between Mourinho and Ballack, another player who has been in and out of the squad but mostly out with his injuries, Mourinho can be rightfully accused of under utilizing the talent at his disposal. It does not say much when the moderately successful Mikel is the only bright spot in this season’s transfers. Sheva, Ballack, and Bouhlarouz for all the pre-season hype turned out to be big time busts.
