Nigerian Football Federation appoint dead referee to officiate game

Jamie Vardy might be forgiven for having a death wish for referee Jon Moss because they didn’t really hit it off too well in Leicester’s last game. But things have gone a bit further than that in Nigeria. The referee appointed to officiate a Nigerian Premier League match between Warri Wolves and Giwa FC is actually dead.
He died in January…!
This is the fallout of the chaos in the Nigerian Football Federation, where the incumbent Nigerian Football Federation president Ameju Pinnick ( right in the above pic) being challenged for power by Chris Gawa, with a court order ruling that Giwa should replace Pinnock even though he is recognised by Fifa.
The appointing of the dead referee – Wale Akinsanya, who is currently resting in peace – was done by Chris Gawa, which is not a strong point in his favour.
More on that chaotic confusion here.
