Sergio Aguero scored all three goals – the first two off swift counterattacks which left the Chelsea defence grasping at straws and the third off a pk after Thibaut Courtois got sent off for foul on Fernandinho.

Thibaut Courtois made a few good saves but the end got a red card because of Chelsea’s defensive chaos. He had no option but to bring Fernandinho down at the edge of the box because all the other defenders were occupied elsewhere. It was his second red of the season – which must be some kind of a record.
The arrival of Guus Hiddink had briefly lifted the pall of gloom over Chelsea’s struggles but its back now and more gloomy than ever. They are 10th in the table facing the added ignominy of Bournemouth possibly being level with them on points should they win their next game on sunday.
That might not happen because Bournemouth are facing Liverpool.
