Enner The Dragon: Valencia now leads 2022 World Cup goalscorers
After Cody Gakpo gave Netherlands an early lead with his second World Cup goal, they were distinctly second best most of the match. And it was veteran Enner Valencia, the former West Ham signing to poach the equalizer for his third World Cup goal. Ecuador also had a Perves Estupinan goal disallowed just before half time as Jackson Porozo was deemed to have interfered with Andries Noppert, the Dutch goalie. Gonzalo Plata’s late curling shot evaded Noppert but struck the crossbar. Valencia was stretchered off but appeared on the bench with his knee iced. Hopefully this is nothing serious and he should be fit to play Senegal in their last qualifying match.
Qatar are eliminated having been beaten by Senegal, 1-3 earlier. The Dutch play them next and should be favourites to top the group while Senegal and Ecuador will duel to lock up the second spot for the knockout stage. Ecuador are favoured as they just need a draw.
