The toppers of each group automatically qualify. UEFA has 13 places to fill – the rest being kept for qualifiers from the other football playing nations.
The 10 group runners-up and the two highest-ranked teams from the Nations League who have not already qualified or finished in a runners-up spot will fight it out for the remaining 3 spots reserved for the UEFA.
These 12 teams will be divided into three play-off groups made of 4 countries each.
There will be two knockout rounds and at the end of all that,when the dust settles and the smoke clears – the three additional teams that qualified will be known.
