Sterling bought 550 tickets for pupils at his old school to attend City’s FA Cup semi-final tie against Brighton at Wembley on Saturday. The school was originally called Copland community school when Sterling studied there after coming to England from Jamaica at the age of 5.
Its now called Ark Elvin academy.
Some of the kids in the school got to visit the Etihad Stadium.
Jubil Kunnassery, Head of PE at Ark Elvin Academy said “We would like to say a huge thank you to Manchester City and Raheem Sterling for inviting us to Manchester and taking the time to meet us, answer questions and take pictures.
The head teacher had this to say about Sterling’s generosity.
“All of the students were inspired by his words and we wish Manchester City and Sterling the best of luck for their game against Brighton on Saturday and the rest of the season. We’ve just been blown away by this act of generosity – it’s such a special gift for our pupils who live in the shadow of Wembley Stadium but rarely get an opportunity to get inside to see such an important match and one where an old boy from Ark Elvin Academy will be playing.
We think he’s great. He’s our hero and we’re hugely appreciative of what he’s doing and I think he’ll get some particularly loud cheers on Saturday from one corner of the stadium.”
