Gianluigi Buffon has been goalkeeper for Italy almost since the dawn of time.
But now at last another Gianluigi has appeared on the horizon of italian goalkeeping.
Gianluigi Donnarumma will probably take over from Buffon one of these days.
Donnarumma was called up by new coach Giampiero Ventura for Italy’s friendly against France and the first game of their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
It was not the best of beginnngs for Donnarumma as Italy lost 3 -1 to France .
But he’s only 17 years old – younger than Buffon was when he made his debut for Italy in the dim distant past.
So he’s got plenty of time to learn the ropes and be the next pair of safe hands for Italy.
