Uefa president, Michel Platini, will resign from the post after losing his battle to appeal against his ban from all football over a “disloyal payment” from Sepp Blatter.
After the court of arbitration for sport upheld the ban Platini ran out of options.
For those who remember his glory days this is a sad end to a bright dream. What’s particularly poignant is that the tournament is being played again in France this year and France was where he led his team to great glory.
He was captain of the winning French Euro Team in 1984.He scored 9 goals in that tournament.
He had also won the Serie A with Juventus that year and the Ballon d”Or that year.
The remarkable nine goals he scored in the tournament, included two hat-tricks, and a goal in the final.
Memories…
Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said that Michel Platini’s would not effect the smooth running of Euro 2016 in any way.
Apart from the loss of a president Euro 2016 also has the problem of the major terror threat that hangs over the tournament.
