Blatter’s Lair, the FIFA headquarters in Zurich,is an oblong structure on a hill shrouded in strips of grey netting.
(Er…the building is shrouded in grey netting – not the hill)
Wikipedia tells us that as well as offices, the complex includes a fitness centre, a meditation room, geographically themed parks and a full-size international football pitch.
The main building has only two upper levels, but five underground levels, resulting in two thirds of the headquarters lying underground.
This is kind of symbolic of the way FIFA has operated under Blatter – with a bit of it’s activities visible to the general eye ( shrouded in grey ) and a whole lot of stuff going on underground.
“Places where people make decisions should only contain indirect light,” said Sepp Blatter memorably, “because the light should come from the people themselves who are assembled there.”
Unfortunately for Blatter the shadows over him are deepening now into deep shade.
The FIFA ethics committee has asked for further sanctions against him and Platini after concluding their initial investigations.
Blatter himself is now not radiating much light and on the contrary is not doing so well healthwise either.
