A Spaniard in the works.
Anyone watching the Man Utd vs PSG International Champions Cup match could see the Utd goalie had mentally checked out. De Gea within the first few minutes gifted a ball on a silver platter to Zlatan Ibrahimovic but the striker taken by surprise blasted the ball over. PSG then capitalized on the wide as the Saragasso Sea space between Daley Blind and Phil Jones for Blaise Matuidi to run into as De Gea loitered at the back barely mounting a challenge. Luke Shaw converged in a disastrous manner as he stabbed his leg out for an own goal. It was just too easy. For the second goal, the big Zlatan engaged in a give and go with Lucas Moura which found him one on one with De Gea. Which usually triggers those wonderful cat like reflexes, a De Gea hallmark. Instead, it was more like a limp noodle being drawn out of a carton of Chinese food.
De Gea stalked off at the end of the first half without even a backward glance at his team mates. With Sergio Ramos finally settled in Real Madrid, there is no bargaining chip for Utd to exploit. There are reports that De Gea’s agent has left for China to be with Real Madrid on their China tour and listen to what they have to offer. If De Gea wants to leave then this is a purely a financial transaction. If Real comes up a with a number which Utd cannot refuse, the Spaniard leaves for home. All in all, De Gea has played just 107 minutes and was replaced by Sam Johnstone, the fourth string goalie for the second half. Utd have a goalie conundrum with Victor Valdes, an apostate in Louis Van Gaal’s set up and Sergio Romero just about touched down.
