The transfer market is hotting up. This could be the season’s blockbuster deal if what AS.com reports is true. Sergio Ramos, possibly the game’s most recognized defender set to go to Old Trafford as Real Madrid receives David De Gea and plenty of money. There was reported contact between Rene Ramos, Sergio’s brother and agent and Utd representatives at a London hotel in April.
Ramos is seeking an exit after falling out with the autocratic Florentino Perez, Real’s CEO, with his public pronouncements in defense of Carlo Ancelotti and his hard driving negotiations for a better wage. The last straw was the club failed to defend him when it was suggested he was offered up in the Barcelona presidential elections.
For Utd, Ramos with the possible addition of Mats Hummels would ideally step in for the Nemanja Vidic- Rio Ferdinand winning partnership. A dissolution which still unsettles the Utd backline as first Moyes and now Louis Van Gaal have had to chop and change various configurations of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Paddy McNair, and Tyler Blackett either due to performance issues, injuries, or lack of experience. Financial compensation is no issue with Man Utd, a club with incredibly deep pockets. Ramos will earn approximately $14m in wages, doubling what he gets now.
David De Gea, whos’ meteoric rise into one of the world’s leading young goalies, is well known to Real having caught the eye at Atletico and then tracked when moving to Old Trafford. He is regarded by Perez to be the ideal replacement for Iker Casillas who has fallen out with the club and an injured Keylor Navas. Utd have insured themselves with the arrival of Victor Valdes and they also have Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos as back ups.
This well maybe posturing for a better deal with Madrid as Ramos still has two years left in his contract. After all, Ramos is known as the player who won Real the decima and Rafa Benitez knows a player like Ramos is irreplaceable. On the other hand, De Gea is irresistible to Real and the number of times the Spaniard has come to the rescue of Utd is now legendary. Ramos plus boatloads of money could be the ticket. This could have legs.
Ramos believes he should not be entering the last two years of a contract without a new offer on the table.
