What are two cricketing legends – Saurav ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar – doing on a blog dedicated to soccer you may well ask?
Well the football teams co-owned by the two legendary cricketers are in the finals of the first ever Indian Soccer League Tournament.
Tendulkar’s Kerala Blasters blasted Chennayin FC out of their way and reached the finals.
Ganguly’s Altelico De Kolkata hung on grimly and played out two goalless draws against FC goa in the two semi finals legs. Then after all that grim hanging on they then held their nerve to win the first ever penalty shootout of the tournament to enter the finals.
And what of the sleeping giant that is Indian Football ?
The crowd attendance figures show that over a million fans attended the games at the various venues. The stats say that the inaugural ISL tournament is the fourth best attended football league in the world .
And the noise generated by all those millions surely makes it the noisiest league in the world.
No way any giant can sleep through that.
It’s awake and peering around balefully.
Other leagues – watch out……………………..!
