Sone Aluko’s opening goal was stunning. It had power, beauty, and a perfect finish. The match also saw less salubrious moments as Cha Du- ri was sent off for a soft-ish foul on Lee Wallace as he was goalbound. In response, Neil Lennon, Celtic manager had some not so nice words about the refereeing and was ejected at half time.
Victor Wanyama joined his departed team mate for his two footed tackle on Steven Whittaker in the second half. Three red cards were more than Celtic’s goal attempts up to that point.
Rangers on the other hand piled on more misery at Ibrox as Andrew Little and Lee Wallace scored to send Rangers to victory. Or did they? Just when they looked in cruise control, Calum Murray, the referee sent off Carlos Bocanegra for clipping Giorgios Samaras. Scott Brown successfully converted the PK. Thomas Rogne made it very interesting with a stoppage time header. But Celtic ran out of miracles as Rangers managed to rain on their parade for at least one more match.
Celtic are headed for their 43rd league title and their first since 2008. Rangers were docked 10 points for being in administration and face an uncertain future. Indeed, the Old Firm rivalry could be in jeopardy and because of the mammoth percentage of business brought in by these two clubs to the SPL, the existence of the league is under threat. However, Rangers is deemed too big to fail (where have we heard those words before?), a bunch of consortium have lined up with bids to buy the club.
