What was Andy Carroll doing as last line of defense in front of Pepe Reina? He kept Gary Caldwell onside and as the Wigan player cut in, the £35m striker slipped on the pitch, exposing Reina. Caldwell, a centre back looked like a genius placing the ball into an empty goal to record Wigan’s first win at Anfield.
Wigan had taken the lead earlier through a Shaun Maloney spot kick with Martin Skrtel penalized for knocking out Victor Moses with an inadvertent kick to his head. For 10 minutes Wigan played a man down tending to Moses but Liverpool managed to do nothing. Moses was taken to the hospital with possible concussion.
Luis Suarez finally equalized in the second half flicking a return pass from Gerrard. His trademark celebration is a sort of vampire like kiss to the inside of his wrist. With his overbite you almost think he’s going to tear a chunk off his skin. The Reds thought they had gone ahead through Suarez again but his goal was disallowed after he was judged to have used his arm. Given Suarez’s history it is natural to be more skeptical and Lee Mason was proved correct.
The reason for Liverpool’s loss. Too much fixture congestion caused by their other cup commitments leading to fatigue. This as per Kenny Dalglish, whose gloss is wearing off faster than cheap foundation.
