Ireland win the first Carling Cup

Robbie Keane scored his 49th goal for the Republic of Ireland.They beat Scotland 1 – 0 to claimd the inaugural Carling Nations Cup.

The Carling Nations Cup is a biennial international association football tournament involving the national teams of Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.England ,for reasons unknown,are making themselves conspicuous by their absence. The tournament was initially proposed by then Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez in 2006.
The 2013 edition is scheduled to take place in Wales.
