The Blaugrana secure their 21st league title and third in succession drawing Levante 1-1. They needed just a point. The match started without pomp or swagger almost as if the title could wait. But Keita’s header off a pinpoint Xavi long ball swung the match into overdrive.
The goal introduced a frenetic quality. Levante responded to the setback with Martin Caciedo punishing Gerard Pique’s sloppy defending and a distracted Victor Valdes. The second half saw Barca push trying to go out as winners with Messi showing off a vintage bit of skill but unfortunately for him the ball hit the upright and went across goal. The last 15 minutes saw both teams killing time in a mutual pact.
The celebrations began in Plaza Catalunya which quickly filled with 12,000 fans mocking Mourinho’s paean of pain “Por qué? Por qué? Por qué? Por qué?”.
The party will start at 7:30 PM this Friday evening to allow for parents to bring their children to celebrate with the team as Saturday is a school holiday. Sandro Rosell obviously takes Barca’s UNICEF ambassadorial role seriously. “The children will learn from our exemplary players”. No information whether that involves tips on diving as taught by Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets, and Pedro or playing referee by pulling out imaginary cards. This aside, Barca are deserving winners. Congratulations!
