Bad news for City’s Gareth Barry. He has been diagnosed with a bad ankle sprain that could sideline him up to a month. It throws his World Cup participation into jeopardy.
Roberto Mancini’s statement following the news:
“I’m very sorry for Gareth Barry,” said the Manchester City boss. “Gareth is a fantastic guy and a fantastic player. I hope he can play in the World Cup, but I think that’s a decision for the England medical staff and Fabio Capello.”
Capello’s options are Michael Carrick, struggling with form in Man Utd. Owen Hagreaves who has just about returned from injury after an 18 month injury layoff and woefully short of match practice.
But the best second choice is Scott Parker who has had quite a season at West Ham. He is fast box to box, a ferocious tackler, and possesses an unerring eye for a good pass. He is being linked to Arsenal who are keen to inject some midfield mettle.
One comment on “Gareth Barry maybe out of the World Cup”
were he healthy, he would be a lock, obviously. but too risky to pick hargreaves with his injury troubles. parker a good pick. someone to bring in to kill off a match or on the other hand pick up the tempo if need be. i am very curious to see capello’s squad.
as an american, i hope davies gets picked as we desperately need him up top. and in the back the same goes for gooch.
