Sigi Schmid faced upto his old club and the result was another frustrating draw. The Sounders coach looked mighty unhappy.
Freddie Ljungberg muffed an easy penalty given his years of experience. He only managed to kick wide left. That was in the 32nd minute. In the 58th minute Steve Zakuani running from the left, passed the ball to Jacqua who moved it up to Ljungberg and kept running forward. Ljungberg’s lobbed pass behind the Crew defense saw Nate Jacqua tracking the ball and volleying home magnificently to equalize in the 58th minute. Earlier, Alejandro Moreno’s diving header converted of Pat Noonan’s cross put Crew up.
This was the Sounders fifth draw on the trot. The bright start seems to be petering out and a bit of drift has crept in. Much of the criticism is centered around Fredy Montero’s reluctance to connect with Ljungberg. Steve Zakuani’s ability to get open not being exploited fully. Softness at the left back position and confusion about Brad Evans role.
Tyrone Marshall was ejected in the 92nd minute and will miss the next match against Chivas, the best performing MLS team so far this season.
The one positive note. With 29,126 fans watching the match, Qwest Field still leads MLS attendances by a mile.
